What started out as an effort to help her husband sell his custom-made furniture nearly 40 years ago has transformed into a center of “American Eclectic” for Cecile Thompson at Timpson Creek Gallery. “I started adding antiques and artwork to better display his furniture and the business took off from there,” Cecile says.
Located on Hwy. 78 just west of downtown Clayton, the Gallery features local artwork, a large selection of jewelry including works by Hal and Margie Hiestand, furniture, custom upholstery, home décor and decorating and design advice.
“We sell what I like,” says Cecile. “The store is my look – eclectic, colorful, the cottage style.”
Timpson Creek Gallery is devoted to American-made items. “I believe in supporting American artists,” Cecile adds. “After all, I’m married to one.” Husband Dwayne is a noted furniture designer and builder who lost his space in the Gallery when it expanded in 1997. He now works in a separate shop out back.
Cecile is proud to sell items created by people she knows. “I’m devoted to the cottage industries, the mom-and-pop’s. I can stand behind everything I sell because I know all the artists personally.” That connection allows her to work with artists to develop custom pieces for her clients.
Landscape artist Libby Matthews has a studio at Timpson Creek. And Peggie Rhodes specializes in custom furniture designs and window treatments. “We’ve developed an artsy community here and continue to grow it with trunk shows and art shows featuring new artists,” Cecile explains.
The Timpson Creek Gallery features several galleries, studios and workshops along with a large grass lawn and creek for visitors to enjoy. “We’re more than just an art gallery,” Cecile concludes. “We have a wide variety of beautiful items in a beautiful location. It’s a wonderful place to shop, explore and relax.”
