Lakemont Gallery

Local artist Virginia McClure visited Rabun County for years as the inspiration for her painting. In 2008, she opened a gallery in Lakemont to showcase her work and those of other artists and craftsmen.

In that time, the Lakemont Gallery has occupied nearly every building in the village. But in June 2021, it moved into a new two-story space at the south end of town. Site of the old, old post office, the building was totally renovated and an additional floor added. Designed to be a gallery, there’s plenty of wall space and custom lighting on the ground floor to show off Virginia’s paintings, twig inlay furniture, local pottery and woodcrafts.

The upstairs is now her studio and will also be the site for a full slate of classes and lessons Virginia plans to begin in late summer.

“We offer art that is a reflection of our area – the lakes, the mountains, the forest,” she notes.  “There’s something for everyone who appreciates the finer things.”

The Gallery is open on Saturdays 12 to 5 p.m. and by appointment. Virginia also showcases her paintings at the Lake Rabun Hotel.

There is a varied collection of landscapes, flowers and water scenes. And if you don’t see something you like, Virginia is also available for commissioned work. “Come see us,” she adds.
