Currahee Brewing Company

Rabun County has just about everything. But for the longest time, what it didn’t have was a craft brewer. Those days are in the past as the Currahee Brewing Company opened its newest location in downtown Clayton in 2020.

Located directly across from the courthouse on Savannah Street, Currahee renovated an old auto body shop into a brewery/tasting room along with a private event space, kid’s corner and an amazing covered front porch.

Currahee Brewing Company has been in operation since early 2016 with locations in Franklin, N.C. and Alpharetta, Ga. The company’s main production facility is in Franklin NC, which is located right off Main Street sitting on the Little Tennessee River.

Currahee originally stems from a Cherokee Indian word which roughly translates to “Stand Alone.” They named the brewery in honor of the Cherokee people who are deeply rooted in Western North Carolina as well as the brave men and women in the military. Currahee is the official motto of the 506th Infantry Regiment, originally designated as the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment (506th PIR) during World War II, a unit of the 101st Airborne Division. The unit was made famous by their role in Operation Overlord (D-Day), Operation Market Garden, the Battle of the Bulge, and many other campaigns throughout World War II and Vietnam.

Currahee features an extensive line of different brews including Garland IPA with pine and citrus flavors; Frankenstark with delicious rye and wheat flavors; Kawi infused with copious amounts of cold-brewed Nicaraguan coffee; Der Betrunken, a German Pilsner with Vienna and Munich malts and ferment with a nice clean yeast from the Bavaria region of Germany; Lucky Scars Hazy IPA is loaded with Azacca, Ekuanot, Mandarina Bavaria, Citra and Simcoe Hops; Lucky Scars Wild IPA brewed with a funky, tropical yeast; Mountain Blonde, an easy drinking American Blonde ale; and Brush Creek infused with a red plum puree for a refreshing tart and sweet brew.

Cold beer in a casual, comfortable setting, Currahee Brewing Company in Clayton is an ideal spot for hanging out with friends or just relaxing.
