Chattooga Belle Farm is a 198-acre working farm, distillery and event barn located in beautiful Long Creek, South Carolina. During the 1960’s Long Creek was the largest apple producing area east of the Mississippi River. Famous actor and comedian, Groucho Marx, was an owner of the orchard that is now Chattooga Belle Farm. Long Creek remains a hidden jewel at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains and is also home to the picturesque Chattooga River, the first river in the southeast to be designated “Wild & Scenic” by Congress.
After years of neglect, the orchards were overtaken and the legacy lay hidden until Ed and Kitty Land saw what once was and what could be. Thousands of new trees plus vineyards and berry patches were planted and now the Lands welcome the public to enjoy this special place.
There is something for everyone on the farm. Family friendly activities include various U-pick fruit trees including apples, peaches and plums plus raspberry and blueberry patches. The charming farm store offers just picked produce, regional food specialties, grass-fed farm beef and unique merchandise. The first Sunday of every October, the farm hosts a farm-to-table dinner in the vineyard featuring all local foods prepared by award winning local chefs.
While visiting the farm, guests can experience the extraordinary flavors of wines made with grapes and other fruits grown in the vineyard and orchards, offering over eight different varieties including the regional Southern specialty- Muscatine and scuppernong wine.
After working up an appetite from walking the grounds or just enjoying the peaceful mountain breeze, Belle’s Bistro is the perfect place to unwind with lunch featuring many delicious items including soups, salads, sandwiches and burgers straight from the farm. Belles Bistro is open Tuesday through Sunday from 11-2. After lunch visitors can enjoy a game on the 18-hole disc golf course or just relax in a rocking chair and take in the sweeping mountain views.
The event barn is the ideal location for weddings, family reunions, and corporate retreats or any special occasion that calls for a setting like no other. The barn offers spectacular views of three states with 7,000 flexible square feet of space including a heated inside great room, covered patio area and lawn space for tents.
Because they don’t want any of the fresh fruit to go to waste, Chattooga Belle Farm Distillery is Oconee County’s first legal distillery making small batch, high quality spirits for your drinking pleasure. Stop in for a tour and a taste.
Plan to make the easy drive to Long Creek and see why Chattooga Belle Farm is unlike any place on earth.
