  • Established in 1931.

Clayton Café is a local, historical restaurant in Clayton, Georgia. We welcome locals and visitors with a smile and hug. Although ownership has changed hands several times since 1931, our true Southern hospitality has remained the same! Whether breakfast, lunch, dinner, or dessert, we offer fresh, homemade meals that are sure to please everyone! Great food, great service, great friends. This is the place to be!

Back before the Clayton Café became the Clayton Café it was the original Trailways Bus Station for Rabun County. When the bus station closed the Clayton Café was born. The original sign that is still used to this day in front of the Café is the Trailways Bus sign turned upside down. It has been painted and the Clayton Café name added. It is a part of the history of this county and the Café.

Another piece of the Clayton Café history that is a bit famous is our visit from Mr. Walt Disney. In 1956 Walt Disney brought his filming production team to Rabun County to film the Great Locomotive Chase. Mr. Disney loved our beautiful community and visited a lot of the local establishments. One of his favorites was The Clayton Café. When you dine in the Café you will see photos of him having his meals here.

Bonnie Edmonds is the most current owner of the Clayton Café. There have been eight Owners since the inception of the original Clayton Café back in 1931. Bonnie was born in Steubenville, Ohio, moved to Pennsylvania when she was young. Marriage and children happened and she found herself in Coral Springs, Florida working in construction. On the side, she ran a kayak rental business. Fast forward a few years and a divorce and a move to Rabun County, Georgia. It was here, while cooking for a church function, a neighbor dubbed me a Yankee cook in a southern kitchen. And the rest, as they say, is history. Bonnie has worked in several different restaurants while in Rabun County working in the kitchens, welcoming and caring for guests across this county. In February 2018, Bonnie had an opportunity to fulfill her dream! She took over the Clayton Café, completely renovated it, and reopened on May 21, 2018.

Bonnie says her only two God-given talents are food and people! (Many people would disagree that there are only two).  Bonnie and her staff love making their guests happy…one bite at a time!

If you are planning an event and would like the Clayton Cafe to take care of the catering, we are more than happy to do that for you. Give us a call to discuss menus, pricing, dates, and details. The Clayton Cafe Staff can cater events from casual to high-end either on our property to major event sites. We will help you make your event go smoothly with the most delicious food that your guests will ever experience.
