Amanda Pileski, PhD and Sunny Volano tell the story of Georgia Mountain Psychological Associates, the Mental Health Task Force of Rabun County, and Equine Therapy! Interview by Roger Glenn, a Realtor with Poss Realty in Rabun County, Georgia.Describe your non-profit organization.
Georgia Mountain Psychological Associates (GMPA) was created as a result of efforts by the Mental Health Task Force of Rabun County. Our model replicates a non-profit counseling center in North Carolina where sliding scale rates are provided to those who would not otherwise be able to afford behavioral health and wellness services. We are a 501c(3) non-profit organization and all contributions are tax deductible within the legal limits of the law. Tax ID: (85-1244258).We serve those with insurance, without insurance, and those whose health insurance doesn’t provide adequate mental health benefits. We do not discriminate in the provision of services to an individual based on: the individual’s inability to pay; whether payment for those services are made under medicare or medicaid; the individuals’s race, color, sex, national origin, disability, religion, sexual orientation, or gender identity. No one will be denied access to services due to inability to pay and there is a discounted/sliding fee schedule available. We provide quality services at an affordable price.
Georgia Mountain Psychological Associates include providers from multiple disciplines and specialties to provide choice in care. All participating clinicians agree to accept a reduced fee and provide sliding scale options for individuals. All clinicians that are qualified to take insurance try to include all panels. We seek to provide the best fit for individual needs.
As a task force, we conducted a needs assessment, collaborated with stakeholders, and worked hard to identify a plan to address the lack of mental health resources in Rabun County. We wanted to increase accessibility and affordability, and we hope GMPA will be the first step toward accomplishing our mission. The Mental Health Task Force is made up of community members, law enforcement, school personnel, local mental health providers and public administration figures. It is currently being led by Rabun County Sheriff, Chad Nichols. It provides ongoing community collaboration.
