In his 11 years in Lakemont, William Rodriguez has developed a burgeoning and eclectic business empire. From graphic design and web development to crafting indigenous musical instruments to consulting with farmers on how to successfully grow and market hemp, William is a renaissance man who has devoted his career to the creative arts and education.
William calls Archaic Roots “a manifestation of many years of study, practice and passion for handmade crafts combined with knowledge of indigenous instruments and traditions.” The company offers custom made drums and instruments, instrument repair, indigenous instrument education presentations, drum circle facilitation and instrument building workshops.
Offering one-of-a-kind experiences with unique workshops, retreats, and personal instrument building immersions, Archaic Roots features a private guest room and primitive artist cabin onsite through Airbnb. “We allow guests to delve into true wilderness areas, connect with our Mother Earth, hike to waterfalls, create art and instruments with a variety of media, and so much more,” William notes.
What was once only a personal interest, William began teaching about indigenous instruments when his oldest son was in pre-k and asked to bring some instruments in for show and tell. That simple request has led to more detailed presentations each year for all his children’s classes (and sometimes entire grade levels). Now William teaches Scout troops and at festivals, retreats and other venues.
He adds: “Combining the elements of earth, water, air, and fire to produce functional art with a purpose of making music that transcends the art you are accustomed to seeing in most galleries. There’s no other place like Archaic Roots, come see visit us and see what we do!”

The newest part of the business is Archaic Farmstead, a hemp farm and Silver Fox rabbit breeder. A licensed Georgia hemp grower, William produces a full line of products including CBG and CBD tincture, salves and lotions for pain relief and general wellness. He also offers consulting to farmers interested in growing hemp with advice on licensing, growing and selling.
The Farmstead also breeds Silver Fox rabbits, a heritage breed that is on the endangered list. They focus on this breed for their health, size, and overall docile demeanor and utilize them for their manure, pelts, meat, and live rabbit sales. “We like to consider rabbits the perfect small farm animal, able to reduce weeds and produce waste as well as create the best manure for farming,” William explains. “We firmly believe every homesteader should have a few of these great animals.”
The Archaic Farmstead provides other rabbit-related products such as green skins and manure as well as CBD hemp grow tours and educational workshops, and other CBD products such as full spectrum oil, CBD isolate, and CBD infused products.
William plans for the Farmstead include expanding into offering propagated rare southern Appalachian plants, medicinal plants, and other locally produced products.
