Dana Davidoff has breathed new life into the old Post Office in Lakemont. Her store, Isadora Popper, is the culmination of 30 years in the retail business. And with a second location planned for late Summer 2021, the store is the start of a burgeoning retail mini-empire in Rabun County.
Isadora Popper, which features gifts, household goods, paper and stationary supplies, bath and body products and yarn, offers a little something for everyone – with an emphasis on ethical and sustainable products. Says Dana: “I consider myself the liaison between creative people with ethically produced, sustainable products and the people who appreciate them.”
From Thomasville, Georgia, where she met Ladybug Landing owner Kelly Blount, Dana most recently owned the Tia Dana stores in Highlands and Waynesville, N.C. Kelly touted the potential of Lakemont and when Dana visited, she found “the quintessential quaint little village. When a location became available, I had to relocate here.”
That location, the former home of the Lakemont Cycle Studio, was ideally suited for a retail operation. The result? “A boutique and yarnery carrying well-made goods.”
The mission is clear: “We started with a desire to seek out beautiful and useful items for life and the home that are made with love, thoughtfulness, and detail,” Dana says. “Items with timeless qualities created by people with a passion for what they do, and a care for the future of the world we live in. We provide quality goods with an honest provenance that we use in our day-to-day lives, items made to last that will not fuel the throwaway nature of the modern world… Curating beautifully considered, functional items for others to enjoy is our passion. By sharing these items, our intent is to connect those who do things well with those who are appreciative of them.”
Isadora Popper offers “easy peasy shopping” which includes gift wrap, personal shopping and shopping via Zoom/Facetime, local delivery, curbside pickup, shipping and online shopping.
The Lakemont location only opened in May, but Dana already has plans for expansion. In late summer, she will add a second location in the current Wander space on Main Street in Clayton. Much larger than the Lakemont store, the Clayton location will feature kitchen wares, storage and pantry items along with a wider selection of craft supplies and room for workshops and classes. “We’re excited to be bringing what we love to Rabun County,” Dana notes.
