If you blink while riding down Highway 441, you’ll miss it. And that would be a shame because that unimposing red shack next to Osage Farms is Tomlin BBQ – some of the best eating in Rabun County.
Owners Stephen and Jane Tomlin have been winning awards at BBQ Competitions throughout the Southeast since 1997. In 2005 they decided to go public with their BBQ and opened their Little Red BBQ Shack at Osage Farms Produce Market, where they serve up some of the best pulled pork, ribs, chicken, brisket and smoked turkey you’ve ever tasted.
These are all served up with their signature “Georgia Vinegar BBQ Sauce.” You can also find a Hot BBQ sauce and a brand new sauce for the Tomlins’ — a classic Mustard BBQ sauce. All the delicious sides that are served at the BBQ Shack are fresh and homemade from scratch.
Tomlin BBQ offers plates, sandwiches and meats by the pound. But they are so much more than just barbeque. The dessert menu is unmatched in the area with a variety of cobblers, cheesecakes, pound cakes, turnovers, tarts, cookies, brownie and bread pudding.
And the seasonal milk shakes alone – featuring fresh strawberries from Osage Farms – are worth the trip.
But you have to act fast. Tomlin BBQ is only open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from May through October. A limited window to be sure, but another reason to cherish spring and summer in Rabun County.
